CAAC was able to impact more families and seniors through the help of business partnerships, individual donations, and our joint effort with Michigan State Police to Stuff the Blue Goose.
Due to COVID-19 CAAC staff knew the need for help during the holidays would be greater this year. Thanks to the generosity of the community, our annual holiday giving program continued to grow in 2020.
This year we were able to make the holiday season bright by providing gifts for 68 families and provided 67 home-bound seniors with gift bags that included household necessities and pet items.
The Michigan State Police collects gifts from generous shoppers through the Stuff the Blue Goose program at the Wal-Mart in Plainwell. In addition, the following businesses collected or gave donations for our holiday program:
- TCF Bank (Allegan)
- Lakeview Salon
- Superior Cutting Service
- Blesses Sacrament Church
- Sherwood’s Cove (Sue’s Christmas for Kids)
- Mitten Ladies
- Request Foods
We were able to ensure that 198 Allegan County children ages birth to teen had something special awaiting them on Christmas morning! We also provided families with food, clothing, blankets, winter hats & mittens.
Christmas gift bags were given to seniors who participate in our Home Delivered Meals program. Staff chose clients that they felt needed a little something special to brighten their holiday. Generous donations were made of various items specific to senior needs by the community and CAAC staff.
It was a blessing to see the abundance of giving here at Community Action from staff, board members and our community.
