During challenging times, Utility Assistance is sometimes needed by families, especially during cold winter months of Michigan. Community Action Allegan County may be able to help assist you before your utilities are shut off. There are some requirements to be met, however, the process isn’t complicated as long as you have what’s needed.

We can make a faster determination when you come in prepared, which also saves extra time. This is why we encourage you to prepare these documents ahead of the appointment.
This program assists income eligible households by providing payment for metered and deliverable fuel bills in order to avert a household crisis. We do our very best to help families in Allegan County and hope to serve you also.
Households needing assistance should have the following items before completing the application:
Shut off notice or letter of non-delivery from their fuel provider, stating they are cash on delivery customer
Decision notice from the Department of Human Services
Social Security numbers for all household members
Proof of income for the entire household
An appointment is necessary to complete an application for utility assistance.
