Are you in need of attainable housing? Do you want to develop skills in a hands-on environment to kick-start your career in skilled trades? Our Housing Workx! Program is here to help!

The Housing Workx! Program addresses the need for attainable housing and workforce development in Allegan County. Through this program, CAAC will connect learners to career opportunities in building trades and construction (one of the fastest growing industries in Michigan) to produce healthy attainable housing in Allegan County. Students will be building energy efficient homes or remodeling existing homes to make them more livable.

Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) opportunities will be available in eight skilled trades:

  • Weatherization
  • Carpentry
  • Maintenance
  • Plumbing
  • Masonry
  • Electrical
  • Landscaping
  • Painting

By receiving this training, students have the mobility to utilize their certificate in the area of construction that most interests them. Graduates from this licensed program will receive an industry-recognized and portable pre-apprenticeship credential. This credential is accepted by the Department of Labor and allows for entry-level employment as a Construction Laborer. Through partnerships with the local home building industry and Michigan Works!, CAAC will provide opportunities for graduates to find gainful employment and support services.

Housing Workx! graduates will have the opportunity to earn up to $15.80/hour upon program completion and will be well positioned for a career in a growing industry in need for skilled talent. According to Michigan Works!, nearly all roles in construction will increase by more than 5% through 2022. Michigan lost 48% of its skilled trades workforce over the last decade, which means roughly 60,000 workers left the industry without a replacement. With this many roles left unfilled, there are numerous opportunities for entry-level and skilled individuals who are interested in the construction workforce.
