Thanks to the generosity of the community, our annual holiday giving program continued to grow in 2019. Each year we are able to impact more families and seniors through the help of business partnerships, individual donations and our joint effort with Michigan State Police to Stuff the Blue Goose. This year we were able to make the holiday season bright by providing gifts for 62 families and provide 53 home-bound seniors with gift bags that included household necessities.
The Michigan State Police collects gifts from generous shoppers through the Stuff the Blue Goose program at the Wal-Mart in Plainwell. In addition, the following businesses collected donations for our holiday program:
- Ranir, a Perrigo Company
- Chemical Bank
- Sherwood’s Cove (Sue’s Christmas for Kids)
- Monterey 4H
- Allegan County Sheriff’s Office
- Ely Manor
- Mitten Ladies
- Request Foods
Due to the efforts of the Michigan State Police and the generosity of local businesses, CAAC staff and the Allegan community we were able to ensure that 177 Allegan County children ages birth to teen had something special awaiting them on Christmas morning!
Christmas gift bags were given to seniors who participate in our Home Delivered Meals program. Individuals were chosen by our Senior Services department, who know each participant well because of their daily contact with them through their meal deliveries. Staff chose clients that they felt needed a little something special to brighten their holiday. Generous donations were made of various items specific to senior needs by the community, CAAC staff and even a donation of medications from Perrigo.
It was a blessing to see the abundance of giving here at Community Action from staff, board members and our community.
