The Christmas season is often a time when we receive gifts from loved ones. Children anxiously awake Christmas morning filled with anticipation of what will be under the tree or in their Christmas stockings. Unfortunately, for many families providing these gifts is difficult. Because of the amazing partnership with the Michigan State Police, we were able to assist 59 families in need this holiday season. Some of the families that were served were nominated by our staff agency wide. The remainder of the families in need were able to receive gifts at our quarterly food distribution.
The Michigan State Police collect gifts from generous shoppers through the Stuff the Blue Goose program. This year, we also received children’s toys from a toy drive sponsored by Chemical Bank. The Allegan branch put up a tree of needs to benefit families in the community. Because of the efforts of the Michigan State Police, Chemical Bank and the generosity of CAAC staff and the Allegan community we were able to ensure that 156 Allegan County children ages birth to teen had something special awaiting them on Christmas morning!
This season is also a time of giving. With this spirit in mind, we were also able to provide Christmas gift bags to 67 recipients in our home delivered meal program. The individual’s that were chosen by our Senior Services department know each participant well because of their daily contact with them through their meal deliveries. Staff chose clients that they felt needed a little something special to brighten their holiday. Generous donations were made of various items specific to senior needs by the community, CAAC staff and even a donation of medications from Perrigo.
It was a blessing to see the abundance of GIVING here at Community Action from staff, board members and our community.
