What does Head Start provide?

Early Education Services provides the Early Head Start and Head Start programs to families living or working in Allegan County.

Early Education Service programs are for infants to children up to 5 years old. EES also provides prenatal services to pregnant mothers. These programs prepare children for school while partnering with their families in the areas of early learning, health and family well-being.

Early Education Services offers programming via classroom or through home-based visits.

Early Head Start and Head Start is offered at no charge to eligible children and families.

Center-Based Program

CENTER-BASED PROGRAM

We provide experiences to children in an educational setting using Creative Curriculum. Children are assessed three times per year and are provided healthy meals. We have indoor and outdoor learning environment centers located throughout Allegan County.

Home-Based Program

HOME-BASED PROGRAM

Our parent-child focused home-based program provides weekly home visits supporting child development. Our educators use Parents as Teachers curriculum, playgroups and other socialization opportunities. The children are assessed three times a year. This program is available throughout Allegan County.

PRENATAL PROGRAM

Our prenatal program provides biweekly home visits throughout pregnancy to support prenatal development and education. Our home-based educators use the Parents as Teachers curriculum and Baby Basics. The program is available throughout Allegan County.

Transportation

TRANSPORTATION

Bus transportation may be available for students ages three- to five-years-old. Children must ride in a car safety seat provided by the program while on the bus. Families have the option to drive their child as well.

Commitment of Participation

Head Start will provide comprehensive education and nutrition services, a supportive environment for children and families and support a positive parent/child relationship.

Our parent expectations include encouraging the child with consistent attendance, being involved and engaged in our program and being a partner with us and our program.

Eligibility of Services

Automatically qualify with:

  • SNAP
  • TANF/Cash Assistance
  • Supplemental Security Income
  • Temporary Housing/Homelessness
  • Foster Care

If none of the above apply, we can review your annual income for eligibility.
