Governor Whitmer Proclaims May Community Action Month

May celebrates Community Action across the country. Community Action agencies were signed into law in 1964 under the Economic Opportunity Act under President Lyndon B. Johnson.

Community Goals

Every local Community Action Agency contributes programs to their respective communities that are most needed. All agencies are focused on enhancing the lives of millions of people in the United States by providing life-changing services such as affordable housing, energy assistance, food assistance, home weatherization, programs for older Americans and Senior citizens, and children’s programs through Head Start and Early Head Start.

Community Action builds and promotes economic stability as part of enhancing stronger communities, which in turn promotes self-sufficiency, ensuring that Americans are able to live with dignity.Community Action Month proclamation
