“Our kids LOVED reading and interacting with this book. Below is a picture of us ‘getting stuck’ in a giant piece of gum. We read the book, then all got stuck to the gum and worked together to get unstuck by pretending to chew the gum and blow a bubble. We slowly lifted paper in the air as we blew a big bubble. I left the pink paper gum out during choice time and the children continued to play with it. Many toys got ‘stuck’ to the gum during play. I will surely be reading this book to them again!,” said Stephanie Lyons, Head Start Teacher.

What is Literacy?
Literacy is the ability to read, write, speak, and visually represent ideas according to the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association (1996). Children learn these skills as a result of the opportunities adults create with and for them, the deliberate availability of materials to support their development and expand upon these skills, and experiences that bring the opportunities and materials together.
