Established February 15, 1965

Community Action Agencies (CAAs) were established during the War on Poverty in the 1960s as part of the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964. These organizations were created to fight poverty at the local level by empowering communities and providing vital services to low-income individuals and families. CAAs have since become a cornerstone of efforts to address systemic poverty, offering programs that include senior meals and transportation, food security, housing training and services, and early childhood education. Their mission is grounded in the belief that everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve economic stability and self-sufficiency.

Community Action of Allegan County (CAAC) has been a proud part of this national network, serving Allegan County with dedication and compassion. Over the years, CAAC has evolved to meet the unique needs of our community, offering programs that address housing, energy assistance, food distribution, and family support. By focusing on the specific challenges faced by our residents, CAAC has become a trusted resource for individuals and families seeking a path to a better future. Our programs are designed not only to provide immediate relief but also to foster long-term success through education, skill-building, and community engagement.

As we look to the future, CAAC is committed to expanding our programs and services to better meet the growing needs of Allegan County. Economic challenges, changing demographics, and the lingering impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have underscored the importance of adaptability and innovation in our work. We are exploring new initiatives, such as workforce development programs, expanded childcare services, and enhanced support for seniors, to ensure that no one in our community is left behind. By partnering with local businesses, schools, and other organizations, we aim to build a stronger network of support that uplifts everyone in Allegan County.

Community Action of Allegan County is also deeply committed to fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration within our community. We know that lasting change is only possible when everyone comes together to work toward a common goal. Whether through volunteer opportunities, fundraising events, or advocacy efforts, we invite all residents to join us in making Allegan County a place where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can build a brighter, more equitable future for generations to come.

As we move forward, we remain inspired by the resilience and determination of the individuals and families we serve. Every success story reminds us of the power of community and the importance of our mission. By expanding our programs and strengthening our partnerships, we are confident that Community Action of Allegan County will continue to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for positive change in our community.
